Founded by a French/ American wife-and-husband team Oeuf's mission is to create beautiful, functional, and environmentally sound products with a European sensibility for babies and children. Petite Home in Frederick

I haven't featured a small home in a while. When I saw this renovated Frederick, Maryland house on decorology I viewed the images multiple times. I see many ideas that can be duplicated in my place.

I love the Morrocan motif on the rug and the chairs. The window treatments are hung close to the ceiling to give the room the illusion of height.

I am always a fan of mixing styles. The modern chairs do not not compete with the more traditional elements because of the black and white palette.


I love open shelves for the airiness they provide to a space, but I'm not sure about having them right above the stove. I cook alot at home; this set-up would be a recipe for a hot mess in my kitchen (pun intended).


This bedroom looks so luxurious and inviting, yet so attainable.

Happy Monday, and happy lunar new year! I finished my 3-week detox just in time to enjoy Chinese cuisine.

Currently in my home...

New-to-me products that are doing wonders for my extremely oily skin. I place 3 drops of the Decleor Aromassence Ylang Ylang oil on my fingers, warm it by rubbing my fingers, then gently pat the oil on my face. After 5 minutes I apply Boots No7 Shine Free primer (I don't see it on the website anymore but try this mattifying base) on my T-zone. I then use a liquid foundation (not pictured) to even outmy skntone, then set it by brushing my face with Jurlique Silk Finishing Powder (I use the citrus scent; amazing!).

Enjoying the latest issue of Martha Stewart Living with a mug that my mother-in-law recently gave me. I think they pair well, don't you?

When my friend approached me in 2010 about hosting a baby shower for me I told her that I wanted my husband included and that it should be co-ed. Fathers are very important in a family unit so why shouldn't they be included? So I was thrilled to see this feature via Mochatini on a couple's baby shower. I think it's wonderful that that the concept is finally catching on. What are your thoughts on couple baby showers?

Happy 2012! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. Mine was very stressful, juggling a move, organizing the new place, raising a baby, and planning a dinner party. Whew! But it all worked out. I've had few days to breathe a sigh of relief, and now it's on to decorating our new abode and planning my daughter's birthday party (who is turning one in less than a month!).

What a week! Our landlord notified us that the rent was going to go up by $100 in December, and this put me in a foul mood. After living here for nearly 5 years it's time to bid adieu. Searching for our next place does not excite me, but decorating potential is at least keeping my spirits up.

Petite Eats: Buckwheat Blinis with Smoked Salmon and Crème Fraîche

I haven't participated in French Fridays with Dorie in a while, but this past week was a different story!

I paired the blinis with these spiced butter-glazed carrots

A few notes:

I used whole wheat flour instead of buckwheat, which I didn't have. Next time I will use buckwheat flour; curious how it will affect the texture and taste.
I made the blini dough in the morning and then placed it in the refrigerator before I went to work
The dough did not increase much in volume like I thought it would, but the blinis were not too dense either!
Instead of dill (again, which I did not have), I just used the copious cilantro I had

Happy Friday! I am working tomorrow as well, so tomorrow will be my Friday.

I took Amy Tan's scrapbook class this past Sunday, and what a productive 3-hour session that was! I finished all the assigned 4 layouts (one is above of my baby). To top it off, I won an extra kit of Amy Tan(gerine) for American Crafts goodies. The mini album/ book above was from the extra kit. I included the turquoise ceramic egg crate; so versatile for storing things from jewelry to craft supplies to make-up.

Happy October, mes amies! I cannot believe September came and went in a flash, but maybe it's a good thing. This past month I was totally uninspired and unmotivated. It happens every so often; our lives go through seasons but I really dislike just going through the motions of life. Hopefully the new month will be productive and inspiring!

A few nights ago my sweet husband popped "Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amelie Poulain" into the DVD player. There is nothing like a quirky and whimsical French film to snap me out of my "blah" mood. Amelie's apartment in the Montmarte district alone is a visual treat.

Remember my post on this month's Counterfeit Kit Challenge? Well, I have posted some finished projects...

I had an "aha!" moment when I read this post by Julie Ann. For those of you who paper craft, you know that sticker embellishments are not cheap! I bought the following for $4 each!

But with the tools, dimensional adhesives, and patterned paper I have I really could have made these myself.

We were presented with a few challenges, mainly from sketches at Sketch Support. One challenge was to turn a sketch on its ear. I used this sketch:

Wow, is it really August? I have been working alot while taking care of my baby, and I'm so exhausted! I still managed to carve out time to participate in this month's counterfeit kit challenge.

One of my favorite blogs is French Fridays with Dorie (FFWD). I have been a fan of Dorie Greenspan since I first saw her on Martha Stewart's original TV series, promoting her book "Paris Sweets". So it's no surprise that when I stumbled upon FFWD over a month ago, I was hooked!

FFWD is essentially a cook-along club; members work through Dorie's latest book "Around My French Table." Every Friday members post their blog links and/ or experiences on a chosen recipe. This week's recipe was roasted rhubarb.

I'm not a member (yet), but I thought it would be fun to still play along.

I should preface that I'm not an expert chef, but I do love to cook and to eat! I paired the rhubarb with vanilla ice cream, but for a healthier option you can use the roasted rhubarb as a topping over yogurt.

Shopping Without Spending A Cent

When it comes to scrapbook supplies it's easy to build a collection quickly. I don't have nearly the amount of supplies that some fellow crafty bloggers have, but I am certain that I have enough patterned papers (my weakness) to use for at least the next five years. Read this article for some perspective (a 1-foot stack of paper is enough to make 1000 scrapbook pages!).

That is why I was really excited to stumble upon the blog, Counterfeit Kit Challenge (CKC). You have probably heard of shopping from your closet. In this case, rather than purchasing more scrapbook supply kits, CKC inspires and challenges its readers monthly to create kits from the stash they already have AND to actually use them for the duration of the month.

For the month of May CKC is "counterfeiting" Work in Progress's main kit:

After "shopping" from my stash this is what I came up with:

Aside from patterned paper I am also fond of brads and shipping tags, so I'm thrilled that the inspirational kit has them. As you can see, there are some "old school" items in my mix (remember when Me and My Big Ideas was known for its stick- figure children?). The dollpaper die cuts were from Current's Times to Cherish catalog, over 10 years ago! Yes, clearly I need to start using up these supplies. I'm staying out of craft/ scrapbook stores these days. When I was a new immigrant to the USA as child, I was captivated by all the fun baskets that I saw in the stores in the spring time. I had never seen one before, and I certainly never received any such goodness on Easter. That is, until I got married. On our first Easter my husband left out a plate of jelly beans, egg chocolates, and a small stuffed bunny for me.

Now that I have a wee one, I would like for my daughter to join in the fun. Granted she is only two-and-a-half months old. Obviously no candies and chocolates (reserving these for my hubby and myself), but certainly an age-appropriate toy or two, an Easter dress and/ or accessories, and some books.

The pink bunny was also from hubby's aunt, but it's not a safe toy
for babies due to the pull-able small parts. My husbands loves Cadbury creme eggs!

Tory Burch's Guide to San Diego

Do any of you follow Tory Burch's blog? A recent post from her blog introduced readers to the designer's city guides; that is, cities that have Tory Burch boutiques. San Diego has a store, so my curiosity was piqued. To my pleasant surprise, Ms. Burch's recommendations on where to eat, shop, sight see, and take the kids are also among my favorite spots. I also learned of a few places that I have not heard of; will plan a visit soon.

My husband and I love to bring out-of-town guests to this bistro. Not only is the food consistently delicious, but the restaurant's decor is chic and classy.

I've probably mentioned the SoLo a few times on this blog, and I'm glad that Ms. Burch agrees this is a great place to shop. The space houses several boutiques and merchants that sell design books, home furnishings, linens, and jewelry. I like to come here for unique gifts.

Spring Closet

A new season is here, which means it's time for a sartorial update. Usually I start out with 30+ clothing items, shoes and accessories that I want , but I obviously can't buy everything on the list. My bank account and tiny closet cannot accommodate!

Right now I'm all about easy pieces with clean lines, but still put-together. Nothing frilly or high-maintenance. Can you tell that the baby is dictating my life at the moment? :) Here's my pared down list:

Petite Spaces: Crafty Edition

I love looking at rooms dedicated solely for creative endeavors; so spacious and beautifully organized. But you know what I love even more? Craft areas that maximize space and storage with minimal square footage.

Prior to my daughter's birth I, too, had a room of my own for hobbies. Granted it was also a guest room, but it was mostly crafting that took place in said room. That second bedroom is now a nursery, so I moved all my supplies to the living room. It was a bit daunting trying to organize my stuff. I wanted the living room to be hospitable to guests and relaxing for my family, instead of making it obvious that I pursue my hobbies in the chaos of paper and glue.

Here are some creative spaces that may lack in square footage, but still exude plenty of style and organization.

Petite Shop-ping: Cloth & Patina

Hooray for the weekend! We have rain in the forecast for tomorrow, so there might be alot of time spent browsing and "window shopping" the internet (when I'm not feeding ma fille, of course!).

A new favorite shop is Cloth & Patina, which I first learned about from Wallpaper. If you are into vintage and elegantly weathered decor then this proprietor probably has something to tug at your heartstrings. All my picks below are under $30 to boot!

Homeowner and interior designer Sarah Vanrenen kept her walls a bright white canvas to give a sense of expansiveness, while texture and colorful accessories added personality to space to keep it from feeling cold.

Happy Valentine's Day, mes amies! I have no big plans, other than feeding my newborn baby every 3 hours and sharing a quiet dinner and dessert at home with my husband.

Speaking of sharing, I thought I'd post the Valentine greeting cards I made for Lyndsey's (from The Stationery Place) swap.

I initially hesitated to participate because my baby was due to arrive any day. But thankfully I was able to make all the cards one Sunday afternoon while simultaneously watching the football playoffs.

Catching Up...

Mon Dieu! My sincerest apologies for my blogging absence this past week. I hate to say it, but despite all my holiday planning in November, all self-imposed deadlines went bust. That's what happens when I get sick... I fall behind!

Since then I've been frantically playing catch-up. I finished a bulk of my Christmas shopping today; hope to mail all cards before the end of the week; get a tree, and finally finish decorating for the season. Other December things I've done, or have been doing:

Went to the warehouse sale of local letterpress stationers (e.g. Elum and
Delphine), and got all this loot for under $12! I also met Delphine designer Erika Firm,
a fellow francophile, who is as humble and sweet as she is talented.
San Diego is very fortunate to have her!

Working on a December Daily scrapbook, inspired by Ali Edwards. I haven't taken any photos of mine, but here are some by Ali and other fellow scrapbookers (Simply Autumn, Melissa, Kelly, Amy). I think that in order to succeed at maintaining this project, you should not overthink the process. It's supposed to be stress-free and fun, a way to capture memories and focus on the meaning of the season amidst all the hustle and bustle of the holidays (even though today it felt like I was running around like a decapitated chicken!).

A Tale of Two Cities...

I found out about this brilliant blog (via Lanalou Style) that draws visual comparisons between Paris and New York City. I actually love both places, so for me it's not about one city being superior to the other. I think most, if not all, would agree with me that we are drawn to these cities for their unique personalities and characteristics.

My husband and Bible study group surprised me with a French- themed
dinner party! One of the gals made this croquembouche; doesn't it look amazing?

I received this keepsake box from the same friend,
from The Farmer's Wife in Temecula, California

I scored these Bass Brookfield loafers for $17,
thanks to a reduced price and gift card! I haven't had a pair of penny loafers
since high school, and lately I've been seeing them on fashionable celebrities.

Kate Spade and Closets

Oh those geniuses at Kate Spade... will inspiration ever cease? Earlier this month the company launched a "pop-up shop" in London. The temporary retail space was an enticing preview to the UK's first permanent Kate Spade store, slated to open in the city in Spring 2011.

The concept in styling the shop was how Kate Spade's apartment (er, flat) would look if she moved from New York City to London . My favorites were the storage and display of clothes and accompanying accessories.

Petite Home: Seattle

Mes amies, could you live like the tenant of this 125 square- foot studio? I couldn't! The smallest place I lived in was a 250 square- foot apartment. I loved that adorable studio, but every now and then I had my "I need more space!" moments.

I will say that I admire Kristen's (the tenant) decorating restraint and the wise use of space. I would have preferred creamier whites with various textures to warm up the space. The stark white hues can cause the space to feel a bit cold, which is not what I would want in rainy Seattle.

I was admiring this gorgeous camel toggle coat on The Cherry Blossom Girl, and discovered that it's from the French brand Sandro.

While Sandro does not have boutiques in the USA, the American customer can purchase the brand's collection on Net-a-Porter. I am going to pretend that I have some discretionary income to add the following pieces to my wardrobe! ;)

When I saw this room via The Decorista, I fell in love with it!

Lundi Love: Autumn Decor

Our recent cool and rainy weather has finally inspired me to add touches of fall to my home. You see, summer in Southern California decided to show up late to give us a warm September. Who wants to think about coziness and apple cider when it's hot? So this weekend mon mari (my husband) and I went to a pumpkin patch, I baked some banana bread, and naturally, decorated!

J'adore: Banner Save-the-Dates

One often sees banners at parties, but I love creating greetings in a banner style. I think it's a nice change once in awhile from the folded card method. So I was quite intrigued when I saw this bunting banner save-the-date announcements made by Yeri Yun (found via Grey Likes Weddings).

I love the aqua twine!

Yeri printed the design on a Gocco machine. While she admits the process was quite laborious as she kept adding elements, the end results were worth it. I couldn't agree more!

French T ouch for Your Home: Bistro Mat

I've seen numerous versions of mats with the bistro motif, but they were never really my style. However, when I flipped through a recent Ballard Designs catalog, I found one that I actually like.

I liked how Ballard based their designs on an actual menu in Paris, giving them a more authentic feel. And while we're on the subject of mats, I also found these:

Last December I spotted a bar of soap wrapped in an adorable sack from a beauty catalog. I cut out the photo, pasted it in my wish list notebook, and proceeded to forget about it. 9 months later I was perusing said notebook, and the soap once again caught my eye. So I went online and researched Nostalgia Organics.

The soaps are wrapped in either paper, or in a cotton sack for $2 more. Nostalgia products are all-natural, using sustainable and organic materials, right down to the packaging. In addition a portion of the profits benefit a grass-roots program "dedicated to promoting the healing and self-confidence of women and girls recovering from cancer."

I plan to place an order very soon...

Staying Cool, Paper Style
