Design Made Accessible
I am not a designer by trade, but as you can see from this blog I am a fan of design in many forms. It was nearly ten years ago that I enrolled in an interior design course. That semester I wrote in my journal that great design should be accessible to all (regardless of income and circumstances). I wondered why there weren't any organizations or designers who donated their talents/ resources to families living at or below the poverty line, in the form redesigned spaces.
Fast forward 10 years, and I'm thrilled to report that this has become a reality! I was especially excited to read about Dwell With Dignity on Simply Grove. The Dallas- based organization's philosophy is on par with mine, that "living with great design improves our quality of life." In turn, the families who receive design assistance are motivated and empowered to escape poverty and to become self- sufficient.
