Creative People: Elements of Style

I've found myself gravitating towards traditional design as of late. So when Erin of Elements of Style posted photos of her home, I was absolutely ecstatic! Who said traditional has to be stodgy? I love the touches of color and the space's airiness. Be sure to check out her blog for more eye candy!

Box o' Goodies

I just love packages filled with nice surprises. Lobster and Swan sells just that, brimming with endless possibilities. The shop owner "recycles" craft supplies plus odds and ends by boxing them up in a manner that would make you swoon!

Happy Friday: Bridesmaid Dress= Pretty

I was just telling a friend that one of the benefits of having a wedding these days is the fact that bridesmaid dresses have come a long way. Perhaps joking about one's bridesmaid frock will soon become a thing of the past, with the advent of fashionable and versatile styles.

I saw these bridesmaid dresses via Frolic!

The dress, seen here in another hue, is Calypso's Pazzi style. MSRP is $195, but this particular wedding party bought them at a sale price of $95. What a great price, and you would get so much use out of the dress!

I've long admired Jenny Yoo's designs. I especially love the dress on the farthest right. I'm not even a bridesmaid, but I would buy it in a heartbeat! Her dresses were my first choice for my wedding party, but they were rather cost- prohibitive.

Let's not forget about JCrew, with their classic, timeless designs.

Creative People: Mathew Mead

Have you all heard of Matthew Mead? I'm sure that you have seen many of his work in magazines and on the internet. He's a stylist and a contributing editor for Country Home. He has also written some books.

I've been perusing Mr. Mead's site and just drooling over autumn decor and projects. I'm upset that we have yet to experience a true autumn season here in Southern California. I have to just dream about crisp weather, drinking apple cider, and orange leaves in the meantime.

I love this collage for fall. Click on it to appreciate its full beauty!

I found these images from Mr. Mead's book, Entertaining Simple, which were kindly shared by Happy Living. This book is on my wish list!

Currently Loving: Scrapbook Kits of the Month

I must be living under a rock, because prior to this year I had not heard of a scrapbook kit club. Sheesh, I must not be die- hard enough of a scrapbooker!

So what is a scrapbook kit, first of all? It is a smorgasbord of scrapbook products by (usually) various companies; each is centered around a theme as deemed fit by the kit's creator. All the items can be mixed and matched to create several coordinated layouts. The kit creator has also established a club, which gives discounts on the monthly kits to registered club members. So you either have the option of purchasing a kit on a month-to-month basis (you pay only for the months that you find interesting; flexible but more expensive), or joining the club where membership are 3 to 6 months long (kits may be discounted, but you may be locked in to purchasing ALL the kits for however long your membership runs). There are clubs where the creator will allow members to skip a month or two if the member does not wish to purchase that month's kit in lieu of more favorable kit in the future, or if he/ she was on a tight budget.

I researched many scrapbook kit clubs. I preferred those that either allowed me to purchase a kit month-to-month, and/ or those with more flexible memberships. All prices listed are non- membership, and the corresponding kit photos are for the month of October. Some of my picks:

Zany Zinnia- an excellent value for your money! $19.50 + S/H

Jenni Bowlin- from the famous instructor! She created a line of scrapbooking goods, which you will find in her kits. Expensive, but oh so irresistible! $30 without membership + S/H

Red Velvet- also pricey, but very awesome kits! $32 + S/H

Studio Calico- I hear that their kits always sell out, and it's no wonder--- they manage to make all their kits so fun and unique! $34.50 + S/H

Must Have Furniture: Leather Ottoman

I really like the look of cigar rooms/ lounges. Think club chairs and Humphrey Bogart; very masculine! A myriad leather ottomans abound, but I have been admiring these for some time:

They remind of my mom's antique pair (she keep saying that I will eventually inherit them!). Restorations Hardware has temporarily reduced its price, but it is still spendy. I've become quite despondent at the possibility that I may never be able to find a similar piece without breaking the bank.

But lo and behold, Erin at Elements of Style shared this fabulous deal:

For $200 I can get two! I can't tell if the cushion is leather, though. If I tire of the look, I can simply reupholster them with a fun textile.
